Gallivanting on a Glacier Your Alaskan Adventure Options

The 49th state of the Union, even though the largest in size, is also the most sparsely populated; its natural beauty is without a doubt the most pristine and breathtaking. It is no wonder that so many list Alaska as their top travel destination, whether they would like to go gallivanting on a tidewater glacier, fishing in a lake with water so clear that you can see the fish swimming underneath your boat, or hiking in a forest of unparalleled beauty.

If you are ready to take the Alaskan adventure, keep in mind that you have numerous options! Here are some of the most popular travel destinations:

If you like to fish, and a 75-pound King Salmon sounds like the kind of trophy you want to bring home, then the fishing charters along the Kenai Peninsula will most likely be the way to go. Professional outfitters will make sure that you have a clean boat, and whatever gear you will require to land your trophy fish. Additionally, experienced guides will be able to take you to the best fishing grounds around. If you decide to make your fishing vacation a weekend adventure, then look for an outfitter who also runs a small camp or resort. Some will offer you private cabins for your stay, and even offer to fillet and pack your catch for you!

You have most certainly heard of sightseeing, but what about flightseeing? It is true, Alaska has such vast wilderness that is not accessible in any other way but by air, and some vacation spots have taken advantage of this! You will now be able to hop onto a modern aircraft and get up close and personal with mile high cliffs, glaciers, ice falls, and even abandoned settlements. Very often, these tours are fully narrated by an experienced guide who will be able to give you the information and fell of the parts of Alaska few will ever see. If this sounds like an adventure you would like to consider, please be sure to contact the flightseeing operators to find out which time of the year is best to ensure that the trip will actually be able to take place and not get cancelled at the last minute due to inclement weather.

Some of the flightseeing outfits will even fly you to pristine backpacking spots that will permit you to either set up a base camp or spread out from there, or take an ambitious hike all the way up to the top of a glacier. These tours may be fully guided by an experienced backpacker or self-guided, depending on your skill level as well as your level of comfort in the great outdoors.

For those determined to see a glacier up close and personal, why stop simply at hiking up to one? Did you know that experienced guides will now offer dog mushing tours? It is true! Traverse the expanse of majestic glaciers on the back of a sled pulled by an excited team of Huskies who will obey your guides every command and who will offer the adventure of a lifetime!

If you are not so much of an outdoors person that you desire your own hiking adventures, but still would like to partake in the marvelous Alaskan landscape, why not choose a small seven nights, eight day tour? Several Alaskan tour operators specialize in these small tours that will bring you up close and personal with whales, sea lions, bears, and even permit for day trips to hot springs, fishing spots, and other sightseeing locations.

As you can see, Alaska offers travel opportunities for both the comfortable traveler who would rather not get wet or cold, as well as the rugged adventurer who cannot wait to hear the barking of a team of sled dogs as they pull her or him along the icy landscape of a lonely glacier. Whether you enjoy fishing, hiking, or may wish to take the flightseeing tour of a lifetime, Alaska will be certain to fulfill your every travel need and desire, and whether you are by yourself or take the whole family, these vacations are sure to build beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.

Easy Packing Ideas to Avoid Hold-ups at Airport Security Checks

As if traveling isn’t stressful enough, the recent airport security checks have only added to our collective travel anxiety. Consider the long security lines, the barefoot travelers, and the seemingly endless pat-downs and wand-overs. It’s almost enough to make even the most ardent traveler want to stay home! But it needn’t be this stressful. With a few moments of pre-airport preparation, your travel experience can be less stress, and yes, even pleasant.

If you haven’t flown in recent years, chances are you have not yet experienced the at times miserable lines at airport security checkpoints. It used to be that security was a minor and routine inconvenience. Now, with the threats of terrorism looming over our heads, the airport security checkpoint has become something of a travel ritual, replacing lost luggage as the traveler’s complaint of choice. Frequent travelers now recount their embattled moments, their funny anecdotes, and their embarrassing tales of passing through airport security checkpoints. But it’s best to avoid having your own story to tell. It’s best to pass through unassumingly, with not much to say afterwards. Here’s how to do it.

There are two general guidelines to follow for passing through the airport security checkpoint with no major delays or problems. These are: 1) dress accordingly and 2) pack accordingly. Simply following these two simple guidelines can help ensure safe and pleasant travels.

Dressing For Today’s Travel

Besides following the usual guidelines about arriving at the airport early, you should also be concerned with dressing for the airport. In general, the more bulky you are dressed, the more problems you will have. If possible, dress light, with no heavy overcoat, sweater, scarves, or jacket. If you do have these on, you will probably be asked to remove them, and this will no make the people behind you in line all that happy. Wear easy to remove shoes. One woman I know wears her “airport shoes” whenever she travels. These are slippers-like clogs that are easy to take off at a moment’s notice. Most importantly, don’t wear a belt, jewelry, or anything else that might set off the metal detectors! Most airports now provide small plastic bags where you can stash your loose change and jewelry. Even better, leave these at home, or keep them in your carry on baggage. It is even recommended that women not wear an under wire bra if they plan to go through a security checkpoint.

Packing for Today’s Travel

Packing right is a crucial part of getting through airport security. At home, pack your bags so that they can be examined easily, in case they get chose for a hand-examination. Don’t pack things into many small compartments. Again, if you get chosen for a hand-inspection, this will not make the people behind you in line very happy. Use plastic, see-through containers to pack if you can.

Try to keep electronic equipment to a minimum. If you do travel with several electronic devices, make certain that they are in working order. You may be asked by security personnel to turn them on to prove they work. If you travel with a laptop, keep it outside of its case or backpack. All laptops must be X-rayed separately, so make sure you have it ready by the time you get to the front of the line. Don’t travel with wrapped presents or other wrapped packages. These may be subject to search. Keep health and beauty items secure. If you travel with loose powder in your purse, for instance, make sure it is kept in a very secure container. Any loose powders will surely bring in the airport security personnel in full force. Also, avoid going through the security checkpoint with food or drink items. Wait until you are in the secure area of the airport to purchase foot or drink items.

Obviously, you should avoid traveling with sharp items. Scissors and knives must be checked in with your luggage. You may carry on nail files, nail clippers, eyelash curlers, personal razors, and other small toiletry items on board. However, although it’s legally OK, it’s a better idea to check these items in with your luggage. The less metal you have, the faster you’ll get through the airport security checkpoint.

Gang Up On Green Gills Banishing Motion Sickness For Good (cheap tourist guides information)

Gang Up On Green Gills Banishing Motion Sickness For Good

One of the primary setbacks for many travelers of the world is motion sickness. While you may feel completely alone as you tackle this problem throughout your many journeys, try to remember that thousands of people suffer from this chronic condition each year. Motion sickness is a bit more complicated that you may have ever imagined. While you may feel nausea with the onset of this condition, other people experience a range of symptoms including heart palpitations, extreme sweating, even fainting.

Motion sickness is caused when the fluid in your ears, also called endolymph, sends confusing signals to your brain. You are suddenly no longer able to distinguish between the movement you think you feel and the movement that is actually occurring. Most people who experience motion sickness vomit within the first half hour of symptoms. This, however, does little to relieve the pain associated with the condition. The cause of motion sickness, as well as the reasons some people suffer from the condition while others are left untouched, is a bit of a mystery.

Clinical studies, though, have determined a number of different things about this condition. First, scientists have shown that movements that are both abrupt and sudden in nature tend to cause the onset of motion sickness for those afflicted with the condition. Smooth, slow movements don’t seem to have the same level of fluid displacement, thereby leaving those with the condition a bit calmer. Winding roads, hills, and rough waters tend to be a primary factor in motion sickness. Reading or examining a map while driving can also cause the condition in many. The real key to handling your motion sickness with ease is beating the condition before it causes a wrinkle in your travels. While these tips may not work for everyone who suffers from this condition, trying a few until you find the best one for you is the only way you may be able to leave your motion sickness behind you on your next journey.

One of the best ways to banish motion sickness from your travels is to get to a location where the fluid in your ears can stabilize. While this may not always be possible, depending upon your location, finding an area that has more stability might help to lessen your symptoms. If you happen to be in the air during your next bout of motion sickness, try moving to the middle of the plane. In a car, the front seat is one of the best locations for you. Be sure to keep your eyes toward the horizon, and avoiding looking down at material. Get some fresh air through the nearest window. If necessary, stop the car to give the fluid in your ears a small break from movement.

If you are on a ship, the advice is usually the same as that on a plane. The center tends to offer sufferers more stability than any other area of the ship. Once you’ve found the center of your vessel, it might help to go to the top deck. Looking at the water as it moves by you, can help to signal your body to feel what you see, thereby helping you relax. If that doesn’t work, you might try closing your eyes and working with a relaxation technique that helps you. Telling your mind to calm down is often an effective combatant against the symptoms you are fighting. If you are a regular motion sickness sufferer, you might work with some relaxation techniques on a typical schedule. Next time you need them, they will already be at your disposal.

Another important step to getting rid of the motion sickness you may suffer is to watch your diet carefully. Some foods may bring on your symptoms much quicker than others. Eating lighter foods and avoiding alcohol may be a real help to lessening your suffering. You might also find that eating foods that contain ginger will help to act as a deterrent to your symptoms. You can find it in pill form, chewable snacks, or candy.

There are also many preventative devices on the market that have shown promising results in many who suffer from this annoying condition. There are wristbands you can purchase that either provides you with the Eastern healing technique of acupressure or some measure of electrical stimulation. Even if no hard scientific proof exists with regard to these devices, you may experience the placebo effect just by wearing it, which will only serve to meet your needs.

If you simply cannot deal with the motion sickness anymore, consider taking medication to help fight your symptoms. There are a number of over-the-counter remedies that can help to treat symptoms. Doctors may also have the medication you need to combat your condition. As with any medications, check for interaction between new medications and existing ones. Always ask your doctor before you take any type of medication.

Pyramid Scheme-Travel, Egyptian Style

Considering that the Egyptian pyramids were built piece by piece over 4600 years ago makes them one of the top travel destinations in the world. The Egyptian pyramids are so massive that seeing them on television or in books just does not do them justice. You must see the pyramids in person to appreciate the sheer magnitude of these wonders of the world.

Originally, the pyramids in Egypt were built to serve for multi-purposes. The most common use was to hold the remains of royalty. Usually, these pyramids were built with numerous hidden shafts, corridors and galleries. These lead to the Kings burial chamber or were probably used for other reasons, although the reason is not fully understood. Some believe that the pyramids were used for astronomical purposes or cult worship.

Today, the outside appearance of the Egyptian pyramids differ a great deal than they did when they were originally built. When they were first built, the outside of the pyramids had a smooth limestone surface. However, after hundreds of years of weather and looters, this limestone is now gone. The outsides of the pyramids now have a rough, rugged look.

Traveling to Egypt to see the pyramids is a vacation of a lifetime. Thousands of people flock to Egypt to take in the deep culture and to behold the beauty of these structures. The largest pyramid in Egypt is the Great Pyramid of Giza. This great pyramid is located on the west side of the Nile, near Cairo. When it was first built, it measured 481 feet high. Over time, it lost over 30 feet off of the top. This pyramid is made with approximately 2 million blocks of stone, each weighing more than two tons. Remember that these blocks of stone were placed by hand and with very little technology.

Booking a trip to Egypt should be done only after careful research. These trips can be costly. You want to make sure that you see and do everything while you are on your trip, while staying safe. Here are some must-see attractions in Egypt that all tourists should consider:

Great Pyramid of Giza: As mentioned, this the biggest pyramid in Egypt. It is magnificent and seeing this great wonder of the world will make you ponder the meaning of life. When you visit this pyramid, you will be able to go inside, unless restoration is taking place. However, some have reported that the inside is less than exciting. You will see empty corridors that have long since been looted. While the pyramids seem from pictures to be in the middle of the desert, they are on the very outset of the city of Giza. You can arrange to walk, hike, bike or even take a camel ride to the pyramid.

Luxor and the Valley of the Kings: Most visitors to Egypt will want to visit both of these places. When you arrive, you will find that some of the areas are close to visitors. Luxor is on the edge of the Nile. There are several hotels that cater to the tourists to the area. There are also smaller places where you can stay for a cheaper price. The Valley of the Kings has two areas to tour, one is the East Valley and the other is the West Valley. Most tourists are attracted to the East Valley because they have many tombs. For a normal ticket price, you can enter up to three tombs. If you want to see King Tuts tomb, you will need to purchase a separate ticket. Luxor is a major attraction for tourists. The streets are full of open markets, restaurants, temples and more.

Traveling the Nile: The Nile is a world famous river. Who hasnt heard of the Nile? You can certainly book trips where you can take a ride down this famous river. In fact, many travel agencies that specialize in trips to Egypt actually book seven-day cruises along the Nile. Most of these cruises will stop along at some of Egypts most famous sites.

Whatever interests you, Egypt is filled with places to see and things to do. Visiting the pyramids and other famous sites will be a vacation come true. Plan your vacation in advance and if you are going through a travel agent, make sure you choose a reputable company.

Avoid Cabin Fever Tips on Choosing the Right Cabin for your Cruise

For many a weary traveler, a cruise is the vacation of a lifetime. Whether you are thinking of taking a cruise to the tropical islands or to majestic Alaska, the experience you will have is unique, and the opportunities for rest and relaxation as well as stupendous sightseeing are unequaled by any other kind of vacation. If you enjoy fine dining, then a cruise will tantalize your taste buds with delectable morsels in a picturesque setting. If you love to go shopping, you will find the on-board boutiques and stores to rival even the finest land-mall. If you are looking forward to curling up with a good book, the gentle breeze on deck and a comfortable deck chair will make it possible!

As you can see, there is no end to the wonderful ways in which you can enjoy a cruise. Yet, the savvy traveler will need to realize that there are also some pitfalls to be avoided in order to minimize any potential flies in the ointment. One such pitfall may very well be the accommodations. Granted, the cabins will be clean and luxurious, yet there are some tips on choosing the right cabin for your cruise and avoiding a latter case of cabin fever and buyers remorse. Here are some tried and true tips that will help any traveler, novice or experienced, to quickly and easily get the right cabin for you:

First and foremost, when you book your cruise you will be given the choice of receiving an inside or an outside cabin. No, outside does not mean that you have to camp out in the lifeboat. Instead, it simply refers to the choice of having a window in your cabin or not. If you choose to be outside and wish to have the window, you will have a spectacular view of the ocean, islands, or any other sights as your ship approaches them. The downside of an outside cabin is the fact that you will have to pay for this view. The inside cabin are a lot less expensive and just as luxurious, yet devoid of the natural light streaming through the window. Would you feel slightly claustrophobic in a room without a window? Would you miss the natural light? If this is an important factor for you, it is imperative that you discuss these options with your travel agent and decide on the best cabin choice for you.

If you do decide that the natural light is the way to go, it is time for some further research. Did you know that some outside cabins may be had at sensational bargains, only to come and find out upon arrival that your porthole is partially or completely obstructed by a lifeboat? Similarly, if you wish to have a view of the ocean, yet your window faces a deck where you will see more traffic than ocean, will this bother you? It is the wise traveler indeed who will request to take a look at the ships floor plan to ascertain whether there is an obstruction in front of a window or not. A seasoned travel agent can be a wonderful source of information here, too!

Once you have figured out if your cabin will have a view or not, you will need to pay attention to the actual location of your cabin. Do you wish to be as far away from the tourists as possible? If so, you may be tempted to book on the lower decks; however, you will need to be aware that the lower decks are closer to the ships functionality rooms and crew quarters, so while you may not have a lot of noise from fellow travelers, you will have the commotion of shift changes, engine rooms and bow thrusters. Quite often the mechanical noises are also accompanied by vibration, which may be relatively pronounced in the early morning hours. Are you willing to endure such during your journey?

If you choose to book on one of the upper decks, you are still not home free! Consider the actual location of your cabin: is it located underneath the exercise room? Is it located above the dance club? If so, you will have frequent and consistent disturbances. Again, a floor plan will come in rather handy prior to deciding upon a location for your cabin!

As you can see, with a little bit of foresight, your trip of a lifetime will be enjoyable and truly well worth the expense!

Destination San Antonio- From the Alamo to the Riverwalk

San Antonio is one of the top destinations for visitors to Texas. Even residents of Texas love to visit this beautiful city for weekend trips. This city has something to offer for everyone. Children and families will appreciate the entertainment of Fiesta Texas and Sea World and history buffs will love visiting the Alamo and other historical sites. Couples will find that there is nothing more romantic that walking along the River Walk in the evening.

San Antonio is a city that is steeped rich in culture and history. This city is rated as the eighth largest city in the United States, and while big, visitors certainly do not get the big town feel. To truly appreciate this city, you must understand a bit about the history. Before the Spanish explorers discovered the river in 1691, Native Americans called this area home. The Spanish soon built the Mission San Antonio de Valero, which in 1836 became the famous Alamo. The Alamo is one of the top places to visit in the city, as it is the site where 189 defenders held the mission against the Mexican troops for 13 days. It is here where Remember the Alamo became known as the rally cry for Texas independence.

Today, The Alamo remains a place that is carefully preserved for all to see. Not only can visitors walk the grounds of The Alamo, but also explore the actual inside of The Alamo and take in the shrine and museum located inside. Visitors to the area can also take tours of downtown San Antonio to see La Villita, which is one of the original settlements used by Spanish soldiers and their families. The San Fernando Cathedral, which was built in 1731, is also a popular place for travelers. Also, if you love Texas history, make sure you visit the Jose Antonio Navarro State Historical Park. For a little shopping, check out the Market Square located in downtown. It is the home to the largest Mexican marketplace outside of Mexico.

Of course, you cannot visit San Antonio without seeing the River Walk. Located 20 feet below street level is the Paseo del Rio, also called the River Walk. Travel along the cobblestone paths through the quaint shops and delicious eateries. It seems almost serene in some areas, and full of activities in other areas. The River Walk winds through two and half miles starting at the Municipal Auditorium and Conference Center and ending at the King William Historic District. Also, take part in a favorite activity, the San Antonio Cruise. This boat takes passengers down the River Walk for some of the most interesting sightseeing in the city.

For the families with children, there is no better place to go than San Antonio. Children will love all the city has to offer. Sea World San Antonio is a must-do for all families. Everyone will love seeing the attractions and shows, and having the opportunity to touch and feed the dolphins. Six Flags Fiesta Texas is another popular attraction in the city. This amusement park centers on four themed areas including the Mexican town of Los Festivales, the German village of Spassburg, and cowboy town of Crackaxle Canyon and the Texas town of Rockville.

If amusement parks are the thing for you, check out other attractions in San Antonio including the San Antonio Childrens Museum, the Downtown All-Around Playground located at HemisFair Park, the Tower of the Americas, where you can get a great aerial view of San Antonio and the USTAs Institute of Texan Cultures. You can also make a fun stop at the Plaza Theatre of Wax, Breckenridge Park, which is the home to the spectacular San Antonio Zoo and the Witte Museum, complete with a mini train and kiddie park.

When you are planning your trip to San Antonio, keep the weather in mind and bring your sunscreen. Texas is hot in the summer. If you plan on visiting in July or August, be prepared for the heat, which at times can easily exceed 100 degrees.

San Antonio is the perfect place to visit if you are looking for a vacation of any length. You can find plenty of things to do to keep you busy for a week-long trip, or a short weekend trip. There is something that everyone will enjoy in this town.

There is an aspect of adventure too some of the outdoor tours include skiing, wildlife, and nature tours. You will come home with a much better understanding of the French language and culture.

If art is more your taste, consider spending some time studying art in Mexico. The Instituto Allende, located in San Miguel de Allende, offers programs for credit and for non-credit for all ages. Students can stay and study to earn a bachelor or master of fine arts. Or, if it is just a vacation that you prefer, month-long courses are offered in painting, jewelry making, photography, sculpture, and much more. The classes are only 9 hours a week and cost about $300 for the month. During your off time, you can spend time immersing yourself in the language and culture of Mexico. Located in the mountains of Mexico, this nearly 450-year-old city offers stunning vacation homes, hot springs, beautiful mountain views, and an air of the colonial opulence that once funded it.

If you are a more active person, kickboxing might be the ticket for you. The Fairtex Muay Thai Fitness Camp in Thailand offers classes for both the spiritual and physical training for those interested in kickboxing. The package includes 6 nights of accommodations, 6 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 5 dinners with unlimited French wine, all excursions, and 5 cooking classes, each of which lasts 3 to 5 hours. To plan for the classes, you will visit local spots to get ingredients. Depending on the season, this might include a visit to a goat farm for cheese, a 250-year-old factory for olive oil, a trout farm for fresh fish, or a tour of area wine producers for wine. During down time swim in the pool or enjoy the mountains on foot, bike, or horseback.

For Christians, a popular learning destination is Greece. The Biblical Archeology Society gives an amazing tour exploring the ancient cities, tombs, and monuments that make Greece so interesting. You can follow in the footsteps of Alexander the great and religious explorers searching for the roots of Christianity. Be Prepared How to (discount travel agent help) Pack with Kids In Tow

Be Prepared How to Pack with Kids In Tow

Heading out for your latest vacation with small children is always a difficult prospect. Kids simply seem to require so much more gear than adults do when traveling. In the long run, though, taking a vacation with your children can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. It is a moment in time that you and your children will look back on with a measure of fondness forever. In order to make your vacation go a bit more smoothly, though, there are several tips to keep in mind while you are packing.

First, be sure to pack a bag of things specifically designed to help combat the boredom your children will inevitably experience during the course of your vacation. Whether you will be traveling by car, plane, or ship, at some point during the journey, and possibly at some point during the vacation itself, your children will become uninterested. If you haven’t packed well, that lack of interest in the situation will become misbehavior, which can ruin any great vacation. Your boredom-buster kit can include any number of things to help keep your kids interested in the vacation itself. Try adding favorite action figures or dolls to the kit. This will give your child a taste of home.

If you have younger children, don’t forget to have plastic or stuffed animals that they play with on a regular basis. Age appropriate books for your child to look at or for the two of you to read together are always a nice addition to the boredom-buster kit. Some drawing supplies might also be important. Some companies make markers that only draw on a specific kind of paper, which may help keep your child’s travel clothes clean. It may also keep your child from drawing on the airline tray table, the walls of the hotel room, or the backseat of the car.

If you have older children, handheld video games might be a good investment. Many companies now make various learning video games to keep them away from the violence most video games hold sacred. If you intend to take a long journey in the car, most public libraries offer books or old radio shows on tape or compact disc. Try popping those in the car for everyone to listen. You could also consider spending the money to purchase a portable DVD player. Many of these have price tags at fewer than two hundred dollars, and they may buy you hours of peace in the cramped quarters of a moving vehicle. They may also buy you a quiet naptime once you reach your destination. You could also consider getting portable CD players and headphones for each child. These start at less than fifteen dollars, and you won’t have any fights about which radio station to listen to if you pack music for each kid.

In addition to creating your boredom buster kit, you need to remember to pack clothing options carefully. Small children tend to go through two or more outfits each day, and it is important to pack accordingly. If you plan to be gone more than one week, work a laundromat somewhere into your schedule. It will save you some suitcase room. As you begin to pack clothing for your children, think carefully about your destination. Think about the kinds of things you will be doing while on vacation. For example, if you intend to spend seven days at a large amusement park, the chances are good that your child needs comfortable shoes and climate appropriate clothing. Be sure to throw in an extra outfit in case the climate changes. Even if you plan to be in Texas in the middle of July, a cold evening or two could creep up, leaving your children with a need for a light jacket. If you plan to do any swimming, pack the appropriate gear. Similarly, if you intend to go camping, your outfit selection may differ from a traditional vacation.

Clothing and toys are just the beginning of your lessons on how to pack with your children. You also need to remember to bring along a few essential items. Sunscreen is a must for any time of the year. Even if you intend to go skiing in the middle of the winter, your child will need sunscreen to protect his or her cheeks. If you intend to visit the beach in the middle of the summer, you should probably take the gallon-sized jug of waterproof sunscreen.

A first aid kit is also a must when you are toting kids with you. Children always get hurt at some point. The chances are good that it isn’t serious, but if you don’t have a band-aid and a bit of antibiotic ointment on hand, you may have to send someone to find a drug store. Likewise, kids tend to get sick more often than adults do. Packing some acetaminophen and other necessary over-the-counter remedies is a good idea for the whole family, not just your small children. Check with your doctor about good over-the-counter medications to include in your first aid kit.

Take a bit of extra time to pack your bags, and your vacation with Junior will truly be a success.

Roller Coaster Roustabout Planning your Itinerary to Americas Top Roller Coasters
For some, planning a vacation is all about height, speed, thrill, and air-time. Roller Coasters are one of Americas favorite thrill rides. We just cannot seem to get enough of the high speeds, stomach lurching drops, and hairpin turns. Looking to …

Its a Jungle Out There- Trekking through the Amazon

Nothing can prepare you for the beauty and magnitude of the Amazon jungle like being there in person. While pictures and videos are certainly pretty, actually experiencing the Amazon is like no other experience in the world. Trekking through the Amazon has been a long time dream for many who crave exploring wilderness at its finest. There are many travel companies that can help you plan and prepare for an amazing trek through the Amazon.

When you plan your trip to the Amazon, you will need to know what to pack. It is recommended that you try to pack light. You will not need to bring more than five days worth of clothing because drop-off laundry service is found throughout Peru. Walking is the way to get around, so you will need to fit your items in a lightweight backpack that you can easily carry. Peru has a very hot and humid climate. Shop carefully and find clothing that will protect your arms and legs from the searing heat and monster-sized mosquitoes. A wide-brimmed hat is a necessity. In addition, consider taking dark sunglasses and a bandana. You will certainly need a good amount of high quality sunscreen and an extra pair of shoes.

There are no fancy places in the Amazon jungle, so you can get by with wearing the same clothes while you are on your trip. You might want to include a rain jacket, fleece jacket for the evenings and long, but lightweight underwear for night. If you are planning on sleeping on the trails, you will need a good quality sleeping bag that is specially rated for freezing temperatures. You will not need a tent. Most experienced tour guides will bring a tent along.

In addition to packing the right kind of clothing, you will need to include a Swiss army knife, strong tape for minor repairs, a sewing kit, hand sanitizer, a roll of toilet paper, binoculars, flashlight and a camera. Bring along any medication you may need, along with strong insect repellant. If you are concerned about the water, you can purchase water-sanitizing tablets to make it safer to drink.

There are perfect times to visit. The peak time to visit Peru and the Amazon jungle is between June through August. This is the time of year when the weather is sunny and relatively dry. Prices tend to be higher during this time and tourist hot spots can be crowded. The rainy season in the Amazon is usually between December and April. Trekking through the Amazon can be difficult due to the wet and muddy paths. Experienced travelers recommend visiting Peru in between these seasons in May, September and October.

When you get ready to travel, remember that seeing all of Peru will be difficult in one trip. Select what you really want to see very carefully and find a tour guide that can help you do what you are want to do.

According to an experienced traveler to the Amazon, here are some things that visitors to the area should see:

Visit the Huanchaco Beach and soak in the sun and sand

See the Lords of Sipan treasures at the Museos Tumbas Reales

Explore the Sican pyramids at Batan Grande, backpack along the trails

Backpack through the Gringo Trial and see the beach town of El Chaco

See the sea lions and the Humboldt Penguins at the Reserva Nacional Paracas

Watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean, it offers a breathtaking view

Visit the city Arequipa where it is steeped in culture

Tour the Amantani and Uros islands

Stop in a Lake Titicaca and visit with the locals

Explore the ruins of and markets in Pisac

Visit the bustling town of Machu Picchu and then tour the Cusco area

12. Backpack through the jungle at Puerto Malonado

While visiting Peru and exploring the Amazon may indeed be an expensive trip, you can easily find tour companies that can help you plan an all-inclusive package deal. These plans can help you cut costs when you plan a big trip such as this one. Traveling and trekking through the Amazon is not for the faint of heart, but it will certainly satisfy those who are looking for a world of natural beauty.

Haunted House Tours The Top Four Places to Spot a Spook

You are ready for an unconventional vacation; yet, the camping vacation is so pass, you have already done wild-water rafting, and somehow you dont think that you want to join the dog sledding team in Alaska. Why not instead join the growing number of people who will go on a vacation with a twist: haunted house tours. Sure, you have probably already watched the television specials that are on, usually around Halloween, about haunted houses and the people who tour them. But why not try it out yourself?

Could you imagine sleeping and eating in a haunted house? How would you even know where to go? Here are the top four places to go if you are ready to spot a spook:

Quite possibly the number one spot is the Burford House Bed and Breakfast in tombstone, AZ. Owned by Ruth and Richard Allen, this 1880 adobe home has been a welcoming haven to many local celebrities, as well as famous actor John Wayne. Some residents appear never to have left, including one named George who shot his wayward fianc and then turned the gun on himself. These days, ghost hunters have visited the house and taken pictures of orbs and reflections of a man wearing a cowboy hat looking out the window. Other ghosts are also said to haunt this place, but none of them have been able to be traced back to one particular inhabitant.

Another wonderful location for a haunted vacation is the Castle Inn in New Orleans. Built in 1891, this luxurious house is located in the famous Garden District, just minutes away from the French Quarter and Magazine Street. Haunted by a horse carriage driver who sadly perished during a fire, this ghost loves to play pranks on the residents and guests alike. At times he can be seen in translucent form gazing at the guests or he may be heard coughing and whistling. The other ghost is that of a little girl who met a tragic end in a nearby pool and is still said to be haunting the neighborhood. She is responsible for the patter of little feet in the hallways, and the sounds of beds being bounced on. This bed and breakfast offers quite a luxurious assortment of rooms for long-term stay.

The Red Garter Bed and Bakery in Williams, AZ also has its share of ghosts, some of whom like to be photographed! This tow-story Romanesque building constructed in 1897 has seen its share of history. Starting out as a bordello and saloon, it appears that some residents liked it so much that they stayed, in spirit, anyways. There is talk of a woman with long dark hair who appears in photos, footsteps up and down the hallways, and doors that slam in the middle of the night for no good reason. With its guest rooms cozy and comfortable, and the owners willing to share some history of the famous locality, this is a great location!

The Colonial Inn of Concord, Massachusetts was built in 1716. Having hosted dignitaries and famous people alike, this Inn has been home to many prestigious names. It appears that one guest, in room 24, has never left. It is said that during the civil war, the room was part of an operating room and perhaps this may account for the apparitions.

As you can see, a haunted vacation is not only a lot of fun to take, but even more fun to research. There is so much wonderful history that can be found out and relived, that many will enjoy their stays in a haunted house. Of course, for those who prefer not to have any paranormal encounters, there are other haunted house tours available, such as those inns that offer murder mystery nights or other theatrical outings for interested guests. For those with a hankering for history, there are also those venues available that may not offer a ghost on the premises, but perhaps the tale of an unsolved murder beckoning for closure, such as the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast. Whatever your pleasure, this kind of vacation is sure to not only make you meet some ghostly specters but also some wonderful buildings!

How to Find the Right Travel Destination for Nudists

Texas Answer to a Safari Plan a Visit to Fossil Rim

When you think of a safari, often Africa comes to mind. Maybe you see a rickety jeep in the grasslands surrounded by wild animals. Want to take a safari but stay in the U.S.? Then you should consider Texas Fossil Rim. There you can see a variety of animals roaming together on 1500 acres of land from the comfort of your own car. Or for the more adventurous, take a guided mountain bike tour and get a closer look.

Some of the animals you might see include zebras, cheetahs, wolves, chickens, rhinos and more. Add this to the stunning scenery and you will swear you had driven into Africa! The trip is a 10-mile scenic drive that you take at your own pace. Most of the animals (except for the carnivores and rhinos) can be seen roaming free. You can even get up close and personal by purchasing feed to feed the animals.

Fossil Rim began as a big game ranch, but in 1987 became focused on saving endangered species. It has several captive breeding programs, including a renowned one for Rhinos (ten calves in about 10 years) and cheetahs.

Prices are reasonable, with General admission at $16.95 for adults and $10.95 for children ages 3 to 11. Park officials recommend planning a minimum of two hours for the ride. To enhance your experience, audiotapes, binoculars, and the animal feed are all available at the Visitors Center. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it in the picnic area after your ride. Or stop at the halfway point and get a meal at the Overlook Caf. The views over Chalk Mountain are unbelievable, and the Nature Store has a variety of gifts and souvenirs.

If you want a more personal experience, consider one of the guided tours. The Behind the Scenes tour takes guests our in an open-air vehicle for a more realistic experience. A naturalist comes along to point out the sights and answer questions.

For those who would enjoy some exercise through the beautiful landscape, a bike tour might be perfect. Tours range from easy rides, designed for families with children, as well as more extensive, adult-only trips.

Another great thing about Fossil Rim is that it can be visited in all types of weather. Rain or shine, the animals will still be out. So you can save your sunny vacation days for the amusement park and still make the most of your time. The park is also open on Sundays. You can still enter the park as late as 5:30 pm and have a full two hours to drive, plus the park tends to be less crowded. All the facilities and tours will be open and available.

Fossil Rim can be a very educating vacation destination as well. Since the park is so involved with the conservation of different species, it can be a good starting point for a discussion on being earth-friendly. Talk to your children about things that they can do at home, such as fund-raisers for endangered species, and reducing, reusing, and recycling things around the home.

If you are planning on going deeper into studying the animals at Fossil Rim that are in need of conservation, you may want to brush up on your terms. Endangered animals are in direct danger of extinction if things are not changed. Vulnerable or Threatened animals are in risk of becoming endangered. Domesticated animals are the ones that have direct human contact. Population stable animals maybe decreasing in population, but have not gotten to a point where they are in danger. Lastly, animals that are recovering in the wild have increasing populations.

For teachers, the park also offers classroom-oriented activities. You can bring your class to the park, or the park can bring some of the animals to you. Some of the current programs available include learning activities with insects and studying the weather. With insects, children can learn about dying with ink made from bugs, keeping arthropods alive in a classroom, and studying insects out in their own playground. For the weather, students will learn how to use thermometers, barometers, rain gauges as well as equipment to test wind speed and humidity. Programs discussing mammals and plants are in the works for the near future.

So make Fossil Rim a part of your next vacation and have a stop that is both fun and educational!

Save Some Money and Follow these Great Tips when Booking your Vacation

Everyone loves a vacation. You get away from the day-to-day grind and get a chance to relax and maybe even see or do some new things. But with travel expenses on the rise, some people may be considering whether or not they can take a vacation this year. Before you toss out those travel magazines, consider some ways to save money when you travel.

There are several things to consider when you are planning your vacation. Where you are going to go, where you will stay, what you will see and do while you are there. Knowing exactly what you want to do before you go is essential whether you are planning a trip yourself or using an agent. While you might find a cheaper room on the other side of town, is it worth the hassle then of getting to the attractions that you want to see?

Another thing to consider is how you will get to your destination and around once you get there. If you are flying, does your hotel offer a free shuttle? Will you need to find a taxi? How will you get around town while you are there? If you are driving, you will want to consider the extra wear and tear on your car, not to mention the extra mileage. In some cases, you might find it cheaper to rent a car. If you are driving you dont have to worry about the wear and tear on your own vehicle. If flying in, having a car once you get there allows you some flexibility of always having a car available that is going where you want to go.

Finding cheaper ways to dine can help stretch your travel dollars. Take advantage of free continental breakfasts or restaurants where kids eat free. Bring your own lunches and snacks, or eat in your hotel room instead of at the attraction. The cost of food prices at most amusement parks is astronomical. Bring along refillable water bottles that can be filled at drinking fountains or in your hotel room to avoid overpriced beverages as well as dehydration. If your children must have that Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream sandwich, wait to purchase it for a special moment, such as your last day at the park.

Another way to save money is to watch out for great bargains. Watch for coupons they might be anywhere from motel brochures to newspapers to online. Take advantage of multi-day passes at the park, since they will be the cheapest and allow you to see the most. Consider getting a membership or season pass if it is a place that you are planning to visit often. See if you can make your own reservations and check for package deals online.

Using a travel agent may let you get in on some special package deals. However, make sure that you get all the details before signing up. Be wary of any agents that seem to be pushing for one particular vacation package or who do not appear to be listening to your desires. These agents may only be out for a sale.

Watch your spending money while you are actually at the attraction. Everyone loves souvenirs, which tend to be overpriced. Plan a set amount to spend before you go in. Let you children know this amount ahead of time, and let them do their own shopping. You might find this will stop any begging while you are sightseeing. Also consider some of the free souvenirs that you might find bring a notebook for autographs from your childrens favorite characters, get an extra of the colorful maps to frame for her room, or purchase a small disposable camera for them to take their own pictures with and create a scrapbook at home to share with friends.

Do not forget that you are paying for your hotel room too! If you are staying multiple days at one location, do not forget the complimentary services that your hotel may offer. Remember that you are paying for them with your room price. Spend an afternoon at the pool or get a work out in their weight room. A little down time in between attractions can make everyone feel more refreshed. Do try to avoid money drainers in the hotel as well though. Instead of pay per viewing an overpriced movie, consider bringing along books or magazines to read, or small portable games for your kids.

Planning a vacation does not always mean breaking the bank. With some wise budgeting and smart shopping, you can enjoy that family vacation without feeling guilty.

Guides will be able to not only talk about the history of the Grand Canyon but also about the stories of the Native Americans who called it their home. Rather than being in a long line of overheating recreational vehicles, why not take advantage of such as tour? Of course, you do want to be on the lookout for an outfit that offers you modern and spacious vans rather than old and beat up looking minivans that are about as comfortable as a bus.

Several guide companies offer tours to novice hikers and it is a good idea to talk to one of these outfits if you are unsure of your own hiking capabilities or hiking equipment. Guided tours come in especially handy if you are looking for a low impact hike but would like to see the sights and hear the sounds that make the Grand Canyon so famous! For those who wish to set off by themselves, be sure to wear adequate footwear, sun protection, and bring lots of drinking water. A map is a must to avoid going in circles or getting lost.

Quite possibly the most perfect location that will suit your needs is the Canyon Villa Bed and Breakfast in picturesque Sedona. It is close to a large number of cultural venues, such as the famous arts and crafts village of Tlaquepaque or Montezumas Castle. Of course, if your heart is set on being close to the Canyon, then you may wish to consider staying at Legacies Bed and Breakfast in William, which is just about an hour away from the entrance to the national park. You may leave your car behind at the inn and instead take the Grand Canyon Railway, which runs from Williams.

As you can see, a Grand Canyon getaway is literally only a mouse click away. There are so many different ideas for vacation packages, getaways, day trips, weekend stays, and even weeklong vacations that will accommodate even the most discerning traveler. Comfort levels vary depending on your enthusiasm for rugged travel and outdoor activities, but white water rafting is no longer the only method of enjoying this marvel that Mother Nature has given us. As a matter of fact, in light of the new accommodations that are springing up all around the Grand Canyon, and also given the proximity of other natural wonders, travel providers and trip planners have long since begun to branch out a bit to include a large variety of exciting possibilities on the itinerary of their clients.

Why not take advantage of the research they have done, the new equipment they have purchased, and the trips they have put together in the hopes of attracting travelers who may either go it alone, or come in groups? Why not see what the hotels have to offer? You will not be sorry you did! As a matter of fact, you are quite possibly in for the trip of a lifetime and will build memories that will be yours to remember fondly forever.
